The New Girl in Town is the second album released by Selena y Los Dinos.

The album is comprised of ten tracks, which were recorded during 1983-1985, and initially released only as '45 singles. Most of the songs on the album, were covers of songs performed by other artists, before Selena, while the rest were written by Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr.

Production[]

When the band didn't get much help from Freddie Martinez, the CEO of Freddie Records, Quintanilla decided to find another record deal for them. In the summer of 1984, Quintanilla got a phone call from Manny Guerra, who heard Selena during a concert, and wanted to produce Selena Y Los Dinos. Selena began to record tracks, which were released as '45 singles, under the Cara Records label, during 1983 - 1985. Finally, in 1985, Cara Records released the album, The New Girl In Town, which compiled the ten '45 tracks, Selena had recorded for them, the prior three years. The album was only released for 2 months, due to conflicts, regarding the rights to some of the songs. Due to that, Quintanilla then took the band out of Cara Records, and moved them to the newly founded GP Productions, headed by Manny Guerra, who had been producing most of their stuff. They would stay with his labels, until 1989, when they signed with EMI Latin. Selena's cover of the song, "Oh Mama", became very popular, leading to appearances by Selena y Los Dinos, on TV shows like The Johnny Canales Show.[1]
